It was such a terribly heartbreaking sight: on the side of a road alongside trash and discarded furniture was a little puppy. The hopeful little puppy was waiting—for someone, anyone to come get him from the chair. The sighting first took place when someone drove by and saw the little puppy on the chair on the side of the road. That’s where animal control officer Sharon Norton stepped in and ventured out onto the desolate road in Lincoln County, Mississippi. She drove straight to the location and couldn’t believe her eyes: a little puppy was very sick and weak and was sitting in an old chair, next to an old TV. He had been dumped like trash on the side of the road.
The poor little dog was starving, but he stayed where he was, clearly convinced someone was going to come back and get him. It’s believed he was there for about a week, and he was so thin you could see each of the bones in his ribs and back. As soon as Sharon approached the puppy he tail began to wag and she gave him his first meal in likely many days. Though he was waiting for his former owner, he was very happy to see the animal control officer. She picked him up and carried him to her car, where his tail never stopped wagging. His ordeal was finally over and he was very relieved about it.
She brought him straight to get medical attention, and was dewormed and received much needed vaccinations too. He is now at the Brookhaven City Shelter in Mississippi where he is recovering and will soon be up for adoption into a loving home. In the meantime, animal control is investigating who dumped the puppy and will prosecute them for animal endangerment.
