It seemed like a typical Friday morning for police officers in Florida, but a traffic stop became a tragedy when the gunfire started. It was around 2:00 am in Florida when officers stopped a car. The suspect fled the scene and that’s when K9 Officer Greg Shone and Titan his partner were called in. Titan is a four year old Belgian Malinois and is highly trained to help locate suspects. Titan was searching the area and located the suspect but was shot in the process. Officer Shone rushed Titan to the animal hospital for help, where he was rushed into surgery. Officer Shone and Titan do everything together, and this experience was no exception: he was by the dog’s side the entire time.
K9 Officers and their partners spend ever moment together. They go through training together, they are certified together, they work together each day and even live together. They form a very strong bond through their careers together. Titan and Officer Shone have worked in the K9 unit together for the last three years; they work and live together. Though they’ve had their fair share of challenges, they have never faced a situation like this before. Other K9 officers in the unit have been injured, but Titan is the first to take a bullet.
Titan is now recovering from surgery and though he has a long road of healing ahead of him, Officer Shone is by his side every step of the way to watch over him. The entire police force is wishing Titan a speedy recovery and the dog is in stable condition as he heals. While he has been through such a terrible ordeal, K9 Officer Titan has Officer Shone to comfort him and show him the value of having a life long friend by your side.
