A dog named Brindle is very attached to his dad, a man named JD Aument. For the last nine months, JD has been serving overseas as a firefighter in the Army Reserves. During that time, poor Brindle has been inconsolable. JD’s wife, Rachel Marie Aument, says Brindle loves her but JD is his “person” and being without him has been hard on the sweet dog. JD adopted Brindle from the shelter a few years ago when he saw his sad eyes in the shelter. Once he adopted Brindle, he and JD had a strong bond and were inseparable. That is, until JD was deployed last year.
Rachel says that JD being away has been hard for their other dog Xander, too. But Xander is much more bonded with his mom so he’s found a way to cope. But for Brindle, his heart has been broken. There are days he just sits by the window and cries for his dad. While he can’t be there for his best friend, JD figured out a way to bring him some comfort. He took one of his unwashed shirts, packaged it up and mailed it home for Brindle. The moment she placed the shirt on the floor, Brindle knew it was his dad’s shirt. He began rubbing his body all over the shirt, then picked it up and took it to his bed and slept the rest of the day with the shirt.
Amanda did not want Brindle to have to carry the shirt around with him everywhere, so she had a solution: she put it on him. She says the shirt has provided the dog with so much comfort after his dad left and though it’s not a replacement for the real thing, it’s helped Brindle to cope. Best of all, he won’t have to wait much longer: JD is going to be home in about a month! Until that day comes, both Brindle and Amanda have the shirt to comfort them.
