A group of workers were collecting trash alongside the highway in the Dutchess County, New York area. They were going about their work when they heard the distinct sound of a dog barking. The area where they were working was very remote, so it was unusual for a dog to be there. They knew they needed to investigate, so they followed the sound of barking. It led them to a tree that had a dog tied to it, deep inside the woods and miles away from the nearby highway. They couldn’t believe someone had tied the poor dog to a tree and were so thankful they found him in time. The dog was also thrilled to see them.
It was believed the dog had been there for a while, all alone in the over 100 degree weather. The workers contacted the New York State Police who brought the dog to the Dutchess County SPCA. It was there that he received a name: Pesci. The staff could not believe someone would abandon such an upbeat, happy dog like that. After all he had ben through, he was still so in love with people. In fact, nothing makes Pesci happier than being around humans. The dog, despite his ordeal, was still in good health other than being dehydrated. He is now doing well in the SPCA with his new friends—both dog and human. The police are investigating his abandonment in the hopes of finding who is responsible. It is clear from where he was dumped that someone was hoping he would never be found.
But the good news for Pesci is that he was found and he will never have to be alone ever again. Even better, thanks to the news about his rescue going viral on Facebook, he will soon find a loving home. He is ready for adoption and the SPCA says there are numerous applications for him.
