Like most dogs, a pup named Duke does not know how to drive. But he is a relentless dog and it seems he did not let that information keep him from trying to drive a car. Not long ago, Duke’s owners left him alone in their car, a Mercedes Benz. They did not leave him for long, as they were just making a quick trip back inside their house. The car was running, and he was comfortable. However, he was not happy that he was there alone, so he hopped into the driver’s seat of his parent’s car. That’s when things went very, very wrong. He got himself into some trouble and things went downhill.
Duke’s neighbors, a couple named Janie and Jim Black, saw the entire thing unfold from inside their home located in the city of Aptos, California. The gold car began rolling down the street suddenly and it was headed toward their home. The car, with Duke inside, then crashed into a retaining wall located outside of their home which thankfully brought the car to a halt. The couple headed outside to survey the damage and found their wall was destroyed and their garbage can had been crushed. Then, they saw a smiling face staring at them: it was Duke. It seems his leash, which was hooked to his collar, had become tangled in the gear shift of the car. That somehow managed to put the car in neutral and caused it to roll down the hill.
The good news is that there was some damage to the Black’s property, but sweet Duke is okay. Jim and Jamie Black snapped a few photos of the negligent driver who, by the looks of it, is not at all sorry for what he did. In fact, he seems to be quite proud of himself. While it is wonderful that no dogs or humans were injured in the incident, it serves as an important reminder: it’s never a great idea to leave your dog in the car unattended or alone. Dogs can suffer from heatstroke in a car or, like Duke get themselves caught in a precarious situation.
