Woman Gets Shelter Dog for Christmas

April Livingston | January 11th, 2019

When Hallee Fuqua first started volunteering at the local animal shelter, she fell in love with a dog. His name is Rambo and he was an incredibly loving a playful dog. She enjoyed her time at the shelter, which is the Humane Society in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Hallee volunteered there because she absolutely loves dogs. In fact, she had been begging her parents for a dog for years. She always asked for the dog each Christmas and her parents always had the same response. They told their daughter that she could have a dog, but she needed to wait until after she graduated from college.

When Hallee showed up at the shelter on December 15 she heard some good but devastating news: Rambo had been adopted. She was happy that he had found a home, but sad that she would never seen her favorite dog again. What she did not know is that her parents had a secret plan for her—and for Rambo, too. Lance, who is Hallee’s dad, had been in touch with the shelter so he could adopt Rambo for his daughter. The shelter staff did a great job of keeping the entire thing a secret from her. Then, on December 16, Rambo came home with Lance and he and the dog sat near the front door. Rambo had his reindeer antlers on and they were ready for the big reveal.

Hallee was called outside and she couldn’t believe her eyes: she knew the dog was Rambo, but it took her a moment to make the connection that he had been adopted by her family. She immediately began to cry as Rambo came to say hello to his old friend. With his tail wagging, he was finally home. It was a win-win for everyone: Hallee finally got the dog she had wanted for so long and sweet Rambo finally had a family of his own.
