For a woman named Dani McKissick is a big believer in the power of following her instincts or trusting her gut. She did just that recently—and ended up saving a life. Dani was out running errands on a day off from work when she just had a strange feeling come over her. She says it was like a “punch in the gut” and her instincts told her she needed to help an animal that day. That feeling was so strong that she actually turned her car around and drove toward the Harris County Animal Shelter. While Dani already had a dog and two cats at home, the Houston, Texas native knew she needed to keep driving. The shelter was 45 minutes away from her location and Dani has anxiety and panic attacks. Making the drive was very stressful for her and she almost turned around.
Dani didn’t even know what she was going to do when she arrived at the shelter, but she kept driving. Perhaps she would make a donation or even volunteer—but that gut instinct kicked in again and she trusted it. When she finally made it to the shelter, she just walked around looking at the dogs and cats trying to figure out why she was there. Then, a staff member told her about Honey. The nine year old chow mix was going to be euthanized at the end of the day. Dani walked straight over to Honey and knew that was her purpose. The dog had sad brown eyes, and a sweet face—Dani was immediately drawn to her.
Dani knew she needed to help the senior dog, who had terrible allergies, and other health issues like a respiratory infection. That didn’t turn Dani away though—she adopted her. Honey got an allergy shot, some new food and medication and has made a complete turnaround in just a few weeks. Dani saved Honey’s life—all because she trusted her gut!
