Woman Finds Newborn Puppy Tied to Train Tracks

April Livingston | January 8th, 2018

When a woman was outdoors for a photoshoot, the last thing she was expecting to find was a puppy. But find a puppy she did! It began with a crying sound that seemed to be coming from nearby train tracks. She initially thought it might be an injured cat, so she went to get a closer look. It was then that she realized what was really happening: there was a tiny newborn puppy that had one of her legs tied to the train tracks. The little puppy was all alone and seemed to be just a few hours old, because the umbilical cord was still attached to her body and her eyes were not open yet.

Despite the fact that the newborn puppy was tied to train tracks, she seemed to be in okay condition. So, the woman contacted a friend for help. The woman she contacted is named Deirdre Oakley, and she has a lot of experience rescuing baby animals. She knew just what to do in order to help the little puppy, who was dehydrated and a bit tired. The puppy began to get stronger and got a name, too: Polka Dot. The little puppy requires a lot of care, specifically making sure she is bottle fed every few hours. This will ensure she gains her strength and has a fighting chance to grow big and strong someday.

She has already made great strides, opening her eyes and starting to interact with her humans. She’s very attached to her “mom” Deirdre too, who has helped to nurse her back to health. While rescuers did inform the police of the condition Polka Dot was found in, there are no leads as to who left her on alone on the train tracks. The area she was found in is known for dog fighting, and she is a pit bull mix so rescuers assume that might have something to do with her origins. Regardless of her past, she has a very bright future now with her foster mom who has decided to adopt her permanently!
