Wandering Dog Has Saddest Note Tied to Collar

April Livingston | October 8th, 2018

A dog named Ghost was wandering the streets all alone. She was first seen in someone’s yard in the area of western Michigan and no one was really sure where she was from and who her owner was. However, when someone got close enough, they realized the very sad truth: a note around her collar told the true story of the sweet dog’s past. It is thought the note was written by Ghost’s former owner, but no one knows for certain. As it turns out, Ghost was not abandoned out of cruelty, but rather because someone had a serious medical emergency. Someone wrote the note on an old recipe card with red marker and it said:

“I am lost and looking for a home. My owner had a stroke and cannot care for me. Please don’t take me to a shelter. I am a purebred coonhound, 6 months old, please find home.”

Ghost’s rescuer contacted a local group called Luvnpupz, who helps find homes for animals in need. Carri Shipaila, who is the founder of the group, heard Ghost’s story and knew she needed help. Carri said it was clear someone loved the dog, as they had placed the note in plastic to ensure it wasn’t lost due to rain or the elements. Carri is hoping to find Ghost’s owner not to punish them, but rather to help them. She believes Ghost would be best served in his former home, and Carri wants to make sure her owner is okay, too.

Carri believes compassion in this case is important and she hopes to help the owner financially care for the puppy, if they want the help. In the meantime, Ghost is currently in a foster home and could be up for adoption if they are unable to find her original owner.
