Terrified Shelter Dog Drools Everywhere

April Livingston | April 5th, 2018

The shelter is a scary place for dogs. For one dog in particular, it caused a very physical reaction. When two rescuers from a group called the Trio Animal Foundation (also known as TAF) walked through a shelter in Chicago, they could hardly believe what was happening to the poor dog. A little dog named Belle was so distraught about being in the shelter that there was drool pouring from her mouth. Her face was completely soaked in it and she was shaking with fear. Even worse, she had been throwing up while she was at the shelter because she was so upset. It wasn’t that she was sick, it was that she couldn’t understand why she was dumped at the shelter by her former owner. In fact, she was so upset about being at the shelter that it was impossible to comfort her.

Despite her fear and the excessive drooling, she actually began to wag her tail when rescuers approached her cage. They decided they just had to rescue Bella and promptly brought her back to the rescue center. It took several days for her to calm down and even consider eating any food. After a few days at the rescue center and realizing that she was finally safe, Bella began a complete transformation. Her ears perked up and she even appeared to start smiling again, too. The sweet, mellow, and even tempered dog is interested in just one thing these days: spending time alongside her people.

Bella is in great health, but veterinarians did determine that she has a knee condition. This means she will likely need to have surgery sooner rather than later. The rescue plans to cover the surgery and then hopefully find a good home for Bella. No matter where she goes next, it’s clear that she doesn’t have to worry about being abandoned ever again.
