Over two years ago, a loyal dog went missing. Somehow, that dog and his owner were finally and miraculously reunited. Kameroun Mares first met her husky when she truly needed him the most. You see, back then Kameroun was undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She finished up a round of chemotherapy in 2013 and met the husky and adopted him on the spot. Kameroun even gave him a beautiful name: Semper Fidelis, which means “Always faithful” in Latin. She usually just calls him Semper for short, though. The name was fitting for him too; he was a very faithful dog to her. But then the unthinkable happened and the pair was torn apart.
Kameroun had to travel to California in 2016 for medical treatment and her roommate agreed to take care of her dog Semper while she was away. However, she soon got a terrible call: her roommate said the dog had gone missing. Eventually, Kameroun moved to California but she never stopped trying to find Semper in Florida. She placed flyers using pet websites, called dozens of local veterinarians and never stopped calling local shelters to see if he turned up. She never heard anything, so she hired a private investigator for help. The investigator, named Ana Campos, realized Kameroun had a lifetime registration with a company called AKC Reunite.
This system meant Semper had a microchip that was registered to Kameroun. So, in checking on the chip they realized a woman had added her name to Semper’s microchip. Not only that, but someone had put Semper up for sale on Craiglist for $200. Eventually, Kameron was able to be reunited with her sweet dog again—and what a reunion it was. Semper was absolutely thrilled to be reunited with his owner and couldn’t stop jumping, wagging his tail, and licking her face when they saw one another again. Semper even remembered the commands Kameroun taught him years ago.
