When a woman named Kylina Turner first saw a German Shepherd named Caro, she wasn’t sure what he was. In fact, she saw the pile of fur and though it was a stuffed animal, not a dog. The mass of fir was not moving, but when she got closer she noticed one of its ears was moving. The poor dog was stuck inside of a wire bed frame in a dirty backyard in Austin, Texas. He was so sick that he couldn’t try to get himself free, so he just laid there. When Kylina got closer, he reached out his paw to her for help. He wasn’t scared and didn’t make a noise, but she knew he was in desperate need of help.
Caro was very thin and missing a lot of his fur, so she was afraid to touch him because she didn’t want to harm him. So, she took off the sweater she was wearing and wrapped it around his body, which as it turns out only weighed 18 pounds. She lifted him gently out of the metal bed and he was so trusting and walked alongside her back to her car. Once inside, Cato fell fast asleep—he was finally safe. Kylina took him straight to the nearest vet for much needed medical care.
The staff took one look at Caro and they pooled their money to pay for his care. Kylina started a GoFundMe too: https://www.gofundme.com/freddythepuppy The doctors determined that the poor six month old pup was sunburned, malnourished, dehydrated and had a terrible case of mange. He slowly got stronger and better each day, and Kylina knew she needed to help him so she decided to foster him until he found a home—but she ended up falling in love with him instead. Once he was able to go home, he received medicated baths for his mange each day and four small meals to help him gain weight.
Soon, his thick brown and black fur returned and he’s a new dog. Best of all, he’s got a great, loving home and never has to worry about his future again.
