A Staffordshire terrier named Mona has had a tough life so far. Not only has she spent over 420 days in the shelter, she’s been adopted twice—and returned twice. Mona was first adopted by a family who realized their dogs did not like her and they brought her back. Then, she got a second chance with a new family who had a child who was allergic to her. Poor Mona has spent so much time at the shelter and been returned through no fault of her own, which makes her situation so difficult for the staff at The Animal Foundation. The shelter, located in Las Vegas, has become attached to Mona during her time there, but want they really want is for her to find a permanent home.
Mona first found herself at the shelter in 2017, when her family surrendered the five year old dog because they were moving and could not take her with them. All the staff at the shelter loves Mona, though they say she is a little shy at first. However, she quickly warms up and is very sweet and affectionate once she gets comfortable. They say her shyness makes her less likely for people to take her out to meet her and there are a few other reasons people say they are not interested in Mona. People have said she’s too old, not pretty, or even not affectionate enough.
Staff at the shelter say they just need to find someone who is willing to take a chance on Mona, who just loves kids but is just a little picky about other dogs. They also know how important it is to find a family who is willing to make Mona their forever dog, as she has been through so much heartbreak in her life and she deserves a loving family.
