A girl named Molly Wogan, who is twelve, was volunteering at her local shelter, she met a dog that would completely change her life—and the lives of other dogs, too. Molly and her family regularly volunteer at the Cape Ann Animal Aid, located in Massachusetts. While they were there, Molly fell in love with a dog named Mama Grace. Molly and her family took the black Lab mix outside and she just blossomed with happiness and love. The family decided to take Mama Grace home for a few days to foster her and give her a break from the harsh shelter environment. However, when she came home Mama Grace made herself right at home—and bonded with the entire family including their other dog Riley.
It took just three days for the family to decide Mama Grace was staying with them. After finishing the adoption process, they began looking over her paperwork and discovered her terrible past. The letter, written by SueAnn Eady from EARL’s Hope Rescue in Georgia, said Mama Grace was picked up as a stray. It’s believed she was hit by a car and she was malnourished and underweight, but also very pregnant. Just hours after her rescue she went into labor and all of her puppies had pneumonia. Despite all she had been through, Mama Grace got her name because she showed so much love and care to her little pups. After she and her pups were strong enough, the puppies were adopted and Grace was sent to Massachusetts to hopefully find a new home.
Molly and her family contacted SueAnn to let her know how much they loved Mama Grace and how great her life was now. Then, Molly decided to start a volunteer group called the P.A.W.S. Project Foundation to raise money to help dogs like Mama Grace. Her goal was to raise $2,500, but she ended up raising $28,000 and $40,000 in donations of items like food and supplies for dogs. And it all started with Mama Grace!
