There’s nothing better than two animals who love another is there? One such iconic duo is an unlikely pair that has hearts soaring: a 16-year-old Chihuahua and a Pit Bull. The Chihuahua is blind, can barely breathe, and had a large mass on his back legs. According to Kristina Helfer, the adoption and foster coordinator at Wise Animal Rescue, the senior dog was in a terrible way when he arrived at their facility. It was important to the get the dog medical help right away, so a veterinarian laid out a treatment plan for him and he went home with Kristina to heal. When he arrived in her home, Tito, the Chihuahua, immediately bonded with her Pit Bull named Frank. Frank was so worried about Tito and constantly chcecked on him to see if he was okay and licking him.
Kristina has two Pit Bulls: Frank, and Piper. Both dogs are a lovely shade of brown and white and each are rescuses found wandering the street with mange and anxiety issues. But nothing makes Frank happier than helping out other dogs—it what he loves most in this world. Kristina calls him “Nurse Frank,” because he’s so caring and sweet. Tito began to get better from his treatment, but rather than place the Chihuahua in foster care, Kristina knew she had to keep him for Frank.
Tito is unable to walk or see, but that does not stop him from exploring the world around him. Frank helps him on walks too, by carrying him around in a pack on his back. The pair turn heads everywhere they go, but their favorite activities are taking naps and eating food. While it is not clear how much more time Tito has left, one thing is certain: the best days of his life are spent with Frank by his side.
