A German shepherd named Iris and a pit bull named Clover have been there for each other when no one else was around. The pair was actually living in the woods together in Texas. Locals who live in the Fort Worth, Texas area say the homeless dogs had been living in the woods for several weeks. Many had tried to rescue or help them, but the dogs were too scared and would run away from any humans who approached. So, they contacted a local rescue called The Abandoned Ones (TAO) and a woman named Judy Obregon arrived on the scene. She knew it was important to gain their trust, so she began to leave food out for the dogs and sitting quietly nearby so they could get used to her presence.
Judy went to the woods each day to talk to the dogs and get them used to her presence—and of course to give them dog food. After a week of this, the dogs began to trust her and come out of the woods together to eat. Then, she was able to get them into her car to rescue them. It’s not clear how long Iris and Clover were in the woods, but they were safe now.
After their rescue, the dogs were taken for evaluation. It was realized that the dogs could be easily separated without disrupting their lives. In fact, rescuers realized that Iris needed a calmer, more laid back environment whereas Clover needed lots of excitement because she was more high energy. Both dogs were placed in foster homes to help them thrive, and they are loving being around their humans and enjoying being around their fellow dogs too. Both Iris and Clover are now in foster homes and they are working on finding the perfect forever homes, a far cry from their old life living in the woods!
