Sad Grandmother gets Big Surprise

April Livingston | September 7th, 2018

A man named Matthew McVey noticed a big change in his grandmother Shirley recently. The woman, who has always been a happy and upbeat person, was really sad and just down in the dumps. It all started after Shirley lost her dog Kinsey. The beloved pup, who was 14 years old, was a big part of her life and it was tough for her to deal with such a significant loss. Shirley’s husband passed away in 2011 and since his death, she grew very close to their dog Kinsey. The dog was their dog together and dealing with his death and the dog’s death took its toll on Shirley.

Matthew said Shirley referred to their dog Kinsey as her little shadow, because the dog followed her everywhere and provided her companionship. Shirley’s heart was broken and Matthew and his family were determined to make things better for his grandmother. They had just the thing to make her feel better again: a dog. Not just any dog, though: they went to their local ASPCA to find the perfect companion for Shirley.

That’s where they found Sammy, a little dog who they instantly knew was just what Shirley needed to make her feel better. Shirley was especially down that day because she had been recently hospitalized for medical reasons and was recovering in a rehab facility. It was there that Matthew and his family introduced Sammy and Shirley to one another—and he caught the entire thing on video. Shirley immediately began to cry tears of joy when she saw Sammy, who jumped right into her arms as she hugged him. Shirley is so happy to have a dog back in her life, and Sammy is certainly happy to have a human in his life after being in the shelter. Matthew says Shirley is working on getting better so she can return home to be with her sweet dog Sammy.
