A dog named Meira was a little puppy when she arrived at a veterinary clinic in Missouri. Her owner wanted her to be put down because she was caught hunting chickens at her neighbor’s house. However, the veterinarian quickly realized how sweet young Meira was and knew she deserved to live. So, the vet was able to convince Meira’s owner to let the clinic find a new home for the dog. The clinic got in touch with Heading Home K9 Rescue and the group agreed to take in Meira. She was transported from Missouri to Wisconsin to live in a foster home.
Meira was shy, malnourished, and terrified when she arrived, but was excited to be around her fellow dogs. The rescue decided it was best to find a forever home for her, but it needed to be one that had another dog so she would have a playmate. That’s where Brenna Long and her family come in. They were looking for a dog to adopt to be a companion to their dog Carly. Carly was adopted through the Heading Home K9 Rescue group, and the group contacted her because they knew it could be a great fit for Meira. Carly says Meira was so sweet that they had no choice but to adopt her on the spot.
Her family knew she had anxiety, but until she arrived they didn’t realize how bad it was. Meira ran and hid behind a couch the moment she entered their home and refused to come out for several days. However, as time went on she grew braver and soon came out of her shell to play with her new sister Carly. Meira has been with her new family for over a year now and she’s come a long way. She loves people and dogs and makes friends everywhere she goes. She loves to run and play and then cuddle up at night. She’s still working through her anxieties, but she’s doing so well now!
