Much like their human counterparts, every dog is different. Some like to have a special place to sleep, a bed located at the foot of their owner’s bed or even feeling safe inside a crate. However, George is not one of those dogs. George is different—George is special. He is the kind of dog who can sense that his owner is having a difficult time or a bad day and he acts accordingly. That is, he insists upon sleeping right next to her, face to face. This special relationship began three years ago, when Jami Croslow suddenly lost one of her dogs from cancer. She had another dog, who was in his teens, and had been rescued from a shelter in Guam. Jami was devastated by her dog’s death and knew she needed another dog in her life.
As a dog lover, she began a search through the online service Petfinder to locate a new companion. That’s when she happened upon George, who stood out with his big brown eyes, brown spots, and hilariously large ears that seemed to stick straight out from his head. When Jami contacted the shelter, she learned George’s story: he and twenty other dogs had been abandoned when their owner was evicted from a trailer park. They were brought to a very crowded shelter in Georgia and the only reason George had not been euthanized was because an animal control officer took special interest in him.
Jami learned more about him and his temperament and then decided to adopt him, sight unseen. She had originally assumed George was a corgi mix, but as soon as she met him in person she realized that was not the case at all. She loved him anyway though, and the pair bonded immediately and fell asleep in her bed. They had an instant connection, but it did take a little more time for George and Jack, Jami’s 19 year old dog, to bond. She is grateful to have a furry companion that is always there for a snuggle whenever she needs one!
