It is safe to say that a little dog named Professor Schnitzel has both a distinctive look and a picture-perfect life. Just ask all of his Instagram followers, who have clearly fallen in love with the senior rescue dog. For an old dog, he goes on quite a few noteworthy adventures—and his mom is there to document it all. Professor Schnitzel is thirteen years old and while he does love the great outdoors, he is typically just along for the ride. He goes for short walks, but is mostly carried on the trails and hikes. His favorite activity, however, is to stick his head out of the car window and let his long tongue flap in the breeze. His mom, Stephanie Grutzmacher, says the dog is happy just being along for the ride everywhere he goes.
However, things were quite different for Professor Schnitzel before he met his mom. He was discovered on the streets of Oregon and he was quite sick when he arrived at a local shelter. He had quite a few medical issues and was actually scheduled for euthanasia. That is where a group called the Pixie Project stepped in; they rescue dogs from shelters and give them a second chance at life. Professor Schnitzel was saved and got the care he needed: a bad eye removed and a variety of other treatments for skin lesions and other ailments. He was then placed up for adoption, which is where his new mom found him. She already had two dogs at home: a greyhound-pinscher mix named Beverly and a border collie mix named Molly, but she knew this dog was meant to be hers.
So, she adopted the little dog with the big tongue. Professor Schnitzel’s look is due to the fact that he only has one tooth left in his mouth, so there is not much to keep his tongue inside his mouth. So, it hangs out and tends to flap around a little when he walks. And he has plenty of opportunities to do that, thanks to his mom’s many trips around the United States so he can see the world. The pair love to travel and you can see all his photos on his mom’s Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/improfessorschnitzel/
