Moose is not a ‘normal’ dog. His face has an odd shape and he has an underbite. Sadly, he also has a laundry list of health problems that means he visits the veterinarian’s office quite often. But to his mom, a woman named Jennifer Osborne, none of that matters. Jennifer and her husband purchased Moose from a local pet store, something she says they will never do ever again. They found little Moose in a pet store in Defiance, Ohio when he was just three or four months old. Jennifer and her husband, who had always wanted a blue heeler, fell in love with the puppy. She couldn’t tell at the time, but Moose had some serious health problems.
As he began to grow, it became clear Moose had a deformed head. He also had terrible seasonal allergies and a condition called cherry eye, which caused his tear duct to protrude from his eye. She had no idea why Moose had so many health issues, so she reached out to the pet store. The store manager apologized and offered to refund her money. They also said they were no longer accepting dogs from Moose’s breeder, because the dog’s next litter of puppies all died and they thought they had some sort of genetic problem.
Things started to get worse for Moose, sadly. He began having seizures and he was placed on medication to help. Jennifer was worried for his littermates, and reached out to the pet store manager again. The manager denied any other dogs from the breeder or litter had issues and even changed his story about Moose. He claimed Moose was attacked by another dog when he was young and that was why he had so many health issues. Jennifer believes Moose is the result of bad breeding practices, but all that is behind Moose now; she loves him no matter what.
