For a man named Jared Twedell, it was just a normal Sunday morning. He was headed to the recycling center in his home state of Oregon when he spotted something strange. He glanced over to some railroad tracks near the recycling center and saw some movement on the tracks. At first, he thought it was a deer lying on the tracks, but then he lowered his car window and whistled. The animal’s ears perked up and he realized it was actually a dog. Then, he realized it was a dog that was tied to the railroad tracks. The dog tried walking toward Jared, but the chain around its neck pulled the dog back.
Jared knew those tracks were busy, and trains pass through several times each day. So, he wasn’t sure how much time he had, but he knew he needed to act quickly to rescue the dog. The dog was scared, but his tail immediately began to wag when Jared got closer. He worked quickly, trying to free the dog and get him off the tracks and out of the hot sun. It was clear someone had intentionally left he dog there and he realized the wire was tied tightly to the tracks to ensure the puppy did not get away.
Jared knew he was going to take the dog home, so he loaded him into the car and gave him a name: Samson. He gave the dog a bath, removed burrs from his fur and looked him over. Aside from a cut on his neck, the dog seemed in good health. Best of all, Samson immediately bonded with Jared’s other pets, including two dogs, cats, and a giant rabbit. Samson is around six months old and is already quite large, so odds are he will be a big dog when he’s fully grown. Jared says he thinks Samson will be a permanent member of the family, thanks to his sweet nature and rambunctious energy. Looks like someone was looking out for the dog that day!
