It is one thing to abandon a defenseless puppy in a park, but what happened to a puppy found in Chillicothe, Ohio was quite another situation. It was clear that someone did not want her, but why they chose to leave her locked in a cage and write on her white fur with black permanent marker is unknown. On the side of her little body, someone wrote, “FREE” and on her head someone had scrawled the words, “Good Home Only.” The other side of her body said, “I am a gift from God.” Luckily, a group of good samaritans found the puppy and knew just what to do: they called the police. The sweet little puppy was taken to the Ross County Humane Society not long after that.
It was there that a woman named Monica Denney, who runs the kennel at the animal shelter, could not believe her eyes. She says she has seen many terrible things in her time at the shelter, but never anything like this before. Eventhough the puppy was covered in the black permanent marker, she seemed like a healthy, happy five month old dog. The staff chose to named her Marvella, which is the French word for “miracle.” They also scrubbed her fur with hydrogen peroxide and dish soap, which washed away the marker on her fur.
She was scared at first, but quickly warmed up to staff and to her fellow dogs. Now that she is all cleaned up, she is ready to find her forever home. The staff says that should take no time at all, as Marvella’s story has spread far and wide and they have received quite a few applications to adopt her. Police also stepped in to investigate the case and believe they have found the person responsible for abandoning her and writing on her with marker. They say charges will be press against that individual soon.
