A man walked into the San Antonio Pets Alive! Medical Clinic recently. He wanted to surrender two very skinny young puppies who were just three months old. The staff there instructed him to take the pups to a nearby no kill shelter, and he left. However, he did not make it that far. Four hours after the man’s visit, an employee at a nearby market opened the store’s dumpster and found the two puppies inside. The man had simply thrown them away like trash. The employee contacted Pets Alive! And a staff member rushed over to help. The sweet puppies were so happy to see their rescuer, immediately snugging up to them with tails wagging. Both dogs were infested with fleas, so they were given baths and a good meal.
It was clear the two puppies had been neglected. The staff gave them names: Crockett and Bowie, and went to assess them. It was discovered that the dogs had parasites, including ringworm. Bowie was very protective of his brother, using his body to keep him warm and sharing food with him. Sadly, Crockett was found to have canine parvovirus which is highly contagious and can be fatal. That meant the bonded brothers needed to be separated so Crockett could get well. Now that the puppies are getting good meals and care, their true personalities are shining through. Both dogs are very playful and affectionate.
The staff feels good that both dogs will make a full recovery, but Crockett is still undergoing treatment for parvo. Once he’s finished with treatment, the brothers can be reunited. Both dogs just love people and Bowie absolutely loves belly rubs and giving kisses. Once both dogs have healed and are neutered they will be available for adoption into a loving home. These two brothers will be a positive, loving addition to any home!
