Police Save Dog, Try to Find Family for Him

April Livingston | March 7th, 2018

Things did not start out so well in life for a dog named Orson. In fact, it would be accurate to say that he has overcome quite a bit in his life. He was rescued in 2016 from a basement located in South Bronx, New York and he is still trying to find a new home for himself. He is just three years old, but in that short span of time he went through a lot. Orson was rescued from what authorities believe was a dog fighting ring in the New York area. Though he had been through so much neglect and cruelty, Orson was still full of affection and love. In fact, he is one of the most favorite dogs at the ASPCA and even of the New York Police Department, also known as the NYPD.

So, on Valentine’s Day this year the officers from the NYPD decided it was time to do something very special for their favorite dog. After a year of recovering from his terrible ordeal, Orson was ready to be adopted into a loving home—and the officers wanted to help that happen for him. So, three police officers named Sgt. Maria Sexton of Patrol Borough Manhattan North and Police Officers Dana Moran and John Riquelme of the Central Park Precinct got to work. In addition to their regular duties, all three officers serve in roles as animal cruelty liaisons with the ASPCA.

The trio set out with Orson one day around the city of New York to round up some attention for him. Orson even sported a special vest letting everyone know that he was available for adoption. Everywhere he went, from coffee shops to the local library, he gathered attention and affection from nearly everyone he met. Despite all the attention that day, he has yet to be adopted.
