When her owner passed away, a dog named Miss Butterworth was surrendered to the Asheville Humane Society. The dog, a Chihuahua-Corgi mix turned a lot of heads when she arrived because she was incredibly overweight. An examination from a veterinarian revealed Miss Butterworth wasn’t just overweight, she was morbidly obese at 20 pounds over her normal weight. For reference, that is twice the average weight of a dog her breed. The shelter staff knew that in order to have a good chance at adoption, Miss Butterworth needed to lose some weight as soon as possible. So, Miss Butterworth, or Miss B as she is known, was sent to live with a foster family.
The couple who took her in, a couple named Sharon and Barry, began slowly by taking her for walks each day, going just a little bit further each week. They slowly integrated exercise and would even take her for swims in a local lake. Miss B even spent some time as a local celebrity as she went to local events and even appeared on TV and radio stations. Everywhere she went, people fell in love with the portly pup. Best of all, that hard work began to pay off with time and effort.
Between her exercise routine and a healthy diet, Miss B began to shed the pounds. After several months, she dropped a whopping 12 pounds! After all that hard work and a healthy lifestyle, they knew it was time to find her a new home. Sadly, before she was to be adopted, a small cancerous mass was found on one of her legs. Luckily, she had surgery andt he tumor was removed and she was cancer free—and ready to go to her forver home! Now Miss B lives in a forever home with her Chihuahua brother, named Winston Thomas.
