A golden retriever named Cheddar, like many of his breed, is a lover. He just can’t get enough of people and the affection they give him. His story begins with a sad note, however. He lived with a family for the first eight years of his life and then one of his owners was diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, this meant they no longer had the money or time that Cheddar required and the decided to give him up to a rescue. Lucky for him, Cheddar was adopted into a new family quickly and from the moment he entered their home, he made his wishes very clear. He was so grateful to be in the new home that he demanded nearly constant attention from his new owners and wanted to be near them every hour of every single day.
His owner Shelley Vassall describes him as “very, very needy.” She says that he absolutely hates to be alone and demands attention from everyone. Once you start petting him, for example, he will not let you stop. He’ll nudge your arm with his nose or paw and your hand with his to ‘ask’ you to continue petting him. He will sit for hours on end, just receiving affection. Better yet, Cheddar loves just about every person he meets, and recently met a neighbor who is his new favorite person.
Cheddar was a on a walk when his owner Shelley decided to stop and talk to a neighbor named Jean. Cheddar instantly fell in love with Jean and has demanded to return every day to visit her since. Cheddar will pull his owner in the direction of Jean’s house and refuse to move if they go in a different direction. There is an incredible bond between Jean and Cheddar, who just love to sit together and enjoy one another’s company. Oh, and Jean always makes sure to have plenty of treats on hand for Cheddar, too!
