As a news reporter, a woman named Morgan Saxton has seen just about everything. She’s worked as a reporter out in the field for KUTV News in Salt Lake City, Utah for years. Morgan often heads out into the field to report breaking stories and it is important that she get to the bottom of the facts to bring the best information to viewers. But recently, she had an encounter that left her wondering what was true and what was not—and it all played out as she was live on the air reporting. It all started on a dark Wednesday morning in Utah.
Morgan was standing near some brush and was in the midst of reporting about flooding that had occurred in the area. It was dark, so she did not see what was approaching her until it was right there. She says she saw a “shadowy figure” approaching her out of what seemed like complete darkness. Morgan actually broke from her script to describe what she saw. She said, “I think it’s a dog. I’m not sure. There’s some sort of creature below me.”
The “mystery creature” had a long tail and walked very close to Morgan before slowly walking away into some nearby tall grasses. After the report aired, many people watching began to chime in with their thoughts on what the creature was. Some said it was a dog, while others said it was a mountain lion. Even wildlife officials weighed in, many wondering if it was a mountain lion. Eventually, a pawprint was spotted in the mud and the mystery was almost solved: experts said it was a dog pawprint. Then, the actual owner of the “beast” in question sent a picture to the station: it was his dog that had found its way into the live shot on the news that morning. Mystery solved!
Terrifying 😱 A dog, maybe a mountain lion, made it’s TV debut during my morning live shot!!! What animal do you think this it is? pic.twitter.com/gklGAGHH5e
