This Akita pup born with two and a half functioning legs is better known as Luke Skywalker. His mom, an engineer, designed him some wheels so he could get around better. Not only does Luke have his own set of customized wheels, but his family created some BB-8 “hubcaps” for him.
Because of his mom’s designs, Luke can wander around and play just like his big brother, Bentley, another Akita pup. With a wheelchair and prosthetic legs, Luke can move with ease. These pups roam the streets, the backyard, and more. You can also see Luke wander without his wheels, as he has learned to get around just like any other normal pup.
You can see regular every day pictures of Luke’s life or look at the process of developing Luke’s prosthetics on Instagram. One of the cutest pictures is of the family dressed up in Star Wars gear from head to toe. You’ll also find out that Luke is very good at the downward dog yoga pose, as it is his natural tendency without fully functioning front legs.
Luke’s family is showing the world what it’s like to live with a disabled dog and that it is not always what you think. All dogs need a little help sometimes, but Luke’s family has gone above and beyond to make a better life for him. It just goes to show that a little help can go a long way and that not all disabled dogs are destined for lives of doom and gloom.
Bentley and Luke are very happy and live in Indiana. You can see their big smiles on Instagram at @luke_skywalker_2.5. The wheelchair that was used for Luke’s wheels came from Eddie’s Wheels for Pets. You can find out more about this family owned pet wheels company at eddieswheels.com or @eddieswheels on Instagram.
