A man named John knew he didn’t have much time left—his life was coming to an end. There was just one thing left that he needed to do: find a loving home for his beloved dog Pawpaw. John’s dying wish finally came true recently; the perfect home for Pawpaw was found! The story of John and Pawpaw began back in 2017 when he met his best friend at the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue located in San Francisco, California. The two were perfect for one another. Pawpaw was eleven years old back then and John, a senior citizen, was the perfect companion for the sweet dog. Unfortunately, John did not have time on his side.
You see, John has ALS, which is a neurodegenerative disease. His illness was getting progressively worse and he had just one last wish: to make sure that Pawpaw would be well cared for after he was gone. So, John worked with the Muttville Senior Rescue group again to try to locate the best home for his beloved dog. That’s where Tim Belavich and Bernie Knobbe come in. A friend of the men read about the search for Pawpaw’s new home and immediately thought of them. It was perfect: Tim and Bernie had already adopted three dogs from the Muttville group in the past.
It all started for the two men back in 2015 when they adopted their first schnauzer, Clara, from Muttville. Since then, they’ve adopted two more dogs and even promoted the rescue group in their Christmas cards. Tim and Bernie submitted an application for Pawpaw and finally got a chance to visit with him when they were traveling through San Francisco. It was love at first sight—they immediately clicked with Pawpaw. They met John too, and he was so happy to know a loving owner was there for his dog. Sadly, he passed away three days later on April 1—but knowing that his beloved dog Pawpaw would be well cared for with his new family.
