A man named Randy Etter loves his dog Gemini very much. So much so, he was willing to make a huge sacrifice in order to save his beloved companion’s life. He adopted Gemini as a little puppy and the pair has lived together ever since—going on two years now. They love one another, are there to comfort each other, and neither knows how they could live without the other. So, when Randy got the news that he might lose his beloved dog, he was prepared to do whatever it took to save his life. Gemini was playing with Randy’s girlfriend’s daughter one day, fetching the baby’s bottle when she threw it out of her playpen.
Each time the dog grabbed the bottle, Randy would take it back, wipe it off, and give it back to the baby. At some point during their play time, Gemini got the bottle and somehow managed to take the top of it off. He had swallowed something and soon got very sick. He was moving very slowly, acting tired, and just laid down on the ground next to Randy. When Gemini began vomiting, he knew something was very wrong. Gemini went to the vet, but they had a difficult time figuring how what was wrong with the dog. Eventually, veterinarians determined that Gemini had a blockage in his stomach that required surgery. The cost of the surgery was a whopping $4,500. Randy did not have that kind of money, but he quickly did what he could do: he put his car up for sale on Facebook.
He said he was going to use every dollar on the surgery and he was trying everything he could not to lose his best friend. A friend stepped in and agreed to loan Randy $2,000, but he needed more. That’s when a local charity called SOAR Initiative (Street Outreach Animal Response) stepped in. They were able to raise $3,000 to help pay for surgery. Gemini was able to have surgery and he’s now recovering quite well from his ordeal. Thanks to the generosity of strangers, the two best friends will be together for many years to come!
