Nate Ohlman got into his mail truck and headed out on his route thinking it would be just any other day-but he was very wrong. He began his route and was delivering the mail when he realized there was an older dog lying in a ditch on a dead end road. It was a very cold February day in Missouri and he knew the dog was very cold and probably struggling to stay warm. He was so sad to see the dog that way so he knew he needed to jump into action and help him. Nate tried to slowly approach the dog so he wouldn’t frighten him, but he soon realized that the dog couldn’t hear or see all that well. So, he moved around and made noises and once the dog realized he was there he ran straight for the mail truck.
Once he got a closer look, he could see how terrible the dog’s condition was: he had frostbite, was starving, and worst of all he was completely alone. He then gave the dog a name, Sloan, and then took him straight to the animal for help. He then continued on his route but he couldn’t stop thinking about that sweet old dog and wondered if he was alright. It was hard to believe someone could do something so terrible to such a sweet dog and Nate knew he needed to adopt Sloan. Sloan was taken in by a group called the KC Pet Project, and they gave him medication and fluids and saved his life. He then went to a foster home where he could recover more.
Eventually he made a full recovery and he is believed to be twelve years old. Once he was ready, the rescue group knew just who to call about his forever home: his rescuer, Nate. After all he has gone through, Sloan has a loving home with his friend Nate now.
