It was just a typical day for a man named Brooks Rabren, who lives in Birmingham, Alabama. That is, until he went outside and realized he had a very special visitor. It was a dog who was very friendly and very happy to see him—but was wearing a collar with no tags on it. It was clear that someone loved this dog, but that it was lost from its home. So, Brooks took photos of the dog and posted it to Facebook in the hopes of finding its owner. It was in that moment Brooks realized he could wait around to find the dog’s owner or he could give this dog his best day. He chose the latter.
He chronicled the entire thing on Twitter, with a running thread of everything they did together. First things first: he gave her a big meal to start the day. After her food digested, it was time to head out for an adventure, so he took her for a swim. After all the activity, it was time for a nap—which worked out well for Brooks because he had some homework to do. He let her rest and decided to give her a temporary name: Susan. After the nap, it was time for some sightseeing so the pair headed out on Brooks’ boat together.
After that last adventure, the dog’s family got a hold of Brooks and let him know she was their dog Lola. They were so happy to know their pup was safe and having a wonderful time with her new friend. Her family came to get her, but not even ten minutes later Brooks got a great surprise: Lola was back. He called her family again and let them know Lola was back at his home, safe yet again. She then returned back to her people for the second time—and they were so happy to know someone loved her and cared for her when she was out and about.
