LAX Airport Has Gone to the Dogs

It would be a major understatement if you were to say that the Los Angeles International Airport is a busy place. It’s a hustling, bustling hub of thousands of people traveling both across the United and also across the world. With all these travelers and all that busy traffic, there’s bound to be a stressful situation or two along the way. To add to this chaotic environment, Delta Airlines recently announced they were moving their airline terminal from one end of the busy airport to another. This got the Delta airline officials thinking about a possible solution: they realized that there was a strong possibility that things might get even more hectic for travelers on their airline and so many others that travel through the busy LAX airport.

So, Delta officials did something unique: they put out a call for dogs to help them in the airport. A woman named Heidi Huebner who owns the organization called Pets Unstressing Passengers at LAX was ready to answer that very important call. The organization dispatched sixty five volunteers and their dogs through the airport to meet and greet with stressed out passengers as the transition took place. There were dogs of all different breeds and sizes wearing red vests that simply read, “PET ME!” on them dispatched throughout the airport. These dogs, trained as therapy dogs, along with their handlers were used to help keep passengers calm and perhaps even a little happy, too. The handlers and dogs tend to spread out amongst the various terminals in the airport unless they receive a call that they are needed in a specific area to help with unhappy customers.

It’s safe to say this program has been a big hit with customers, who have been known to smile and feel a sense of relief when the therapy dogs are around.
