A thin, hungry pit bull was found in the desert of San Jacinto in California in February of 2016. The four year old dog was so hungry that she was actually starving. The thin dog had a very swollen stomach though, which made her rescuers wonder if she was pregnant. However after being taken to the veterinarian for a checkup after she was rescued, an x ray showed she was not pregnant. In fact, she simply had a stomach full of rocks. It turns out that the thin dog was so hungry that she began eating rocks in the hopes of finding some sort of nutrition. The dog, named Rocky by her rescuers, was safe now though.
Rocky had surgery to remove all of the rocks from her stomach and as she began the process of healing from that life saving surgery, it became clear the sweet dog needed a new home. Rocky bounced around a while from foster homes to boarding facilities and then finally found a rescue in Eugene Oregon to take her in. The group, called Luvable Dog Rescue, brought her to their 55 acre shelter in a wooded area and made room for Rocky. From the moment she set foot in the rescue facility, all the volunteers and staff fell in love with her. She was sweet and affectionate and loved to play with toys and go for walks—and soon she put on some much needed weight.
Rocky’s unique personality began to shine through as well. She became known for her funny sounds when she was happy or excited, snorting, grunting, and even gurgling with her mouth when she was happy. Rocky made everyone in the facility laugh and smile with her infectious, happy disposition. But she needed a permanent home: that’s where a woman named Diane Carey comes in. She adopted a dog from the Luvable group in 2016 and when she met Rocky, she fell in love with her. So, she adopted Rocky (now named Roxi) who lives with her doggy brother Hank. The pair get along well and enjoy the time together!
