For a man named Preston Gladd, hiking is a favorite pastime. He spends quite a bit of time outdoors, hiking not far away from his home in South Park, Colorado. On one such occasion, he decided to head to a new location so he could explore an abandoned mine located at the end of a country road. A friend had told him how great it was, so he headed that way. However, once he approached the mine shaft, he heard an odd sound that made him change his mind. He heard growling, and assumed a wild animal was living inside. So, he left for fear of being attacked by a wild animal.
One week later, he headed back to the mine to see if the animal was gone and he could go exploring. He did find there was something inside: this time it didn’t sound like a wild animal, however. He heard a familiar sound: the baying and barking of a dog. So Preston strapped on his headlamp and headed inside. He was able to see that there was, in fact, a dog stuck at the bottom of a 25 foot shaft. He quickly realized he couldn’t go down alone, so he quickly ran home to get the help of his roommate and his girlfriend. The group gathered up their ropes, climbing shoes, harnesses, and headlamps to get the job done. Once they returned, the dog was visibly excited to see them.
They went to the bottom of the shaft and she was so excited, running around and climbing on her rescuers. They pulled her out and were shocked to see that she was actually in very good health. They gave the dog a bath and a safe place to sleep while they tried to locate her owners. They posted the story and photos on social media and then reunited the pup with her happy owners!
