‘Ferocious’ Dog Has New Life

A dog named Huanghuang was with 600 other dogs on a truck that was heading to a terrible place. It was a truck going to the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China. That’s where dogs are slaughtered so their meat can be eaten by attendees of the festival. The dogs were cruelly packed into tiny cages together and they were not well treated. Dogs are transported over the course of several days without food or water access. While many of the dogs were removed from the streets to be slaughtered, others are stolen from their families. For Huanghuang, it’s believed she was a guard dog and then was sold to a slaughterhouse. It was likely she was beaten as she was waiting to be killed. Her family probably raised her and then sent her away to be killed so they could receive money in return.

But the story changed for Huanghuang and the dogs in the truck. Activists in the area stopped the truck filled with dogs and demanded the driver provide documentation of ownership. He was not able to prove it, so the activists stepped in and removed the dogs and sent them to a holding facility. Many of the dogs were very sick, however, and that illness began to spread quickly. The dogs began to die rapidly, around 50 per day. So, they had to act quickly and the quarantined the dogs to help save those who had survived. Huanghuang was one of the dogs who survived, but she was very aggressive. So much so, she had to be sedated because she was so ferocious around dogs and humans.

But her rescuers refused to give up on Huanghuang. They spent months helping her to get used to people and though it took six months, she made a complete transformation. It’s taken her a very long time to trust humans, but once someone proves themselves to her she gets excited and loving. Now, Huanghuang just needs a new home, and the rescue group will transport her anywhere in the world to someone who will just give her a chance.
