Family Moves, Leaves Pregnant Dog Behind

April Livingston | September 1st, 2018

Tania Cappelluti has always loved animals. That love has followed her everywhere, including the group she founded in Costa Rica called Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue Costa Rica (CAARCR). While she no longer lives in her hometown of Berlin, Germany, she visits there often. Her love of animals and rescuing them didn’t stop when she went back to Berlin for a trip recently. While she was there, rescuers found something unbelievable back in Costa Rica: a very pregnant dog was sitting alone outside a blue house. The neighbors called because they family had moved away and left the dog alone to fend for herself. Not only was she pregnant, but she had no food or water to survive. She was so sad and confused that she just sat by the door all day and night, waiting for her family to return.

Tania was able to convince the neighbor to take the dog in while she figured out what to do next. She knew she needed to act quickly to find her a place to stay or a foster home because she was very pregnant and could give birth at any moment. Wynn Mackey, an American who now lives in Costa Rica and is a dog lover, stepped in to help the dog who she named Marie. She got a nice comfortable bed while everyone waited for her to give birth to her puppies. Marie was as sweet as can be, enjoying her fellow dogs, plenty of attention, and even rolled around in the grass.

It was clear that Marie was hot and uncomfortable as she waited for her puppies to arrive. Then, one night without waking anyone, she gave birth to seven little puppies. Marie did not give birth on the bed Wynn made for her—she gave birth in her bed! While Marie has experienced loss in the past, that is all over now. She is a great mom and she and her puppies will be ready for adoption soon.
