Dog with Head Tilt Gets Help

April Livingston | December 6th, 2018

Two women who live in Tijuana, Mexico run a temporary spay and neuter clinic in the area. The pair, named Elaine Seamans and Rebeca Altamirano, worked until 10 at night and then got in their cars to get tacos and head home. But as they were driving they realized there were other dogs who needed their help. The women saw two dogs wandering in the street and one of them seemed sick. He had an odd head tilt and a large mass under one of his ears. Elaine and Rebeca, who run At-Choo Foundation, stopped their car to help the dog. As soon as they stopped, the dogs came over, but the moment they opened the door the dogs ran.

They waited patiently and eventually the dog stopped and they were able to gather him in a blanket. The dog, who is around 9, seemed like he had a home. He looked like he was clean and had been well fed. But perhaps the issues that he had with his ear and head tilt made someone just dump him in the street. The fifty pound dog was very well behaved at the vet, even as his ear was poked and prodded. The dog, who they eventually named Tommy, was attacked by another dog and it caused a major infection in his ear. The infection had eaten away at his ear canal and he needed surgery to clear the canal.

He had infection all over his face, ears, and neck, but he never once growled at his care takers. Vets believe he will make a full recovery after surgery. Once he is healed and good enough to travel, Tommy will be taken to the United States so he has a good chance at being adopted. Best of all, he will never wander the streets again; all he will know from now on is love and acceptance.
