Several months ago, a woman named Poppy Yang rescued a stay puppy from a parking garage. While she rescued him, she had no idea that someday the puppy would actually go on to save her life too. The puppy, named Twenty, was playing with her owner Poppy when all of a sudden she stopped. Twenty the puppy stopped playing and began to bark at the ground. It was not just any bark, however. Poppy says it was a unique bark she had never heard before and it was almost as though Twenty was worried about something.
Despite the strange barking, Poppy decided to go upstairs to a take shower. But Twenty kept barking and rushed back outside and was acting quite distressed and upset. Poppy could not get the dog to calm down so instead of taking a shower she stayed with the young pup. That’s when something terrible happened: a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit. Poppy and Twenty were able to find shelter in her apartment and were safe during the event. Many objects in her home had fallen, but it did not appear there was any major damage. That is, until Poppy took a peek into her bathroom—the area she would have been if her puppy Twent had not been barking.
Her bathroom had extensive damage, including a shattered glass door and objects that fell from the walls and ceiling. She successfully survived the earthquake because Poppy had sensed the earthquake was coming before it actually hit. Poppy says she believed Twenty saved her life. While it is still a mystery, some scientists believe that animals like dogs can detect phenomenon like earthquakes before they occur due to their acute sense of hearing. They can likely hear sounds that we humans cannot—therefore knowing when an earthquake is about to occur.
Regardless, one thing is for certain: Twenty is one good dog!
