Dog Too Scared to Look at Rescuers

April Livingston | July 27th, 2018

The world has been a very scary place for a little dog named Han Solo. He found himself living on the streets all by himself, so he found a place where he could feel at least a little bit safe. That happened to be a residential neighborhood that was next to some very busy roads. This meant he just tried to find a place that was quiet where he could be safe. It also meant that many people in the neighborhood often saw the little dog crossing that busy road and darting in between cars as they passed. Many people grew worried for the dog’s safety, so they contacted the Hope for Paws rescue group.

Two women named JoAnn Wiltz and Lisa Arturo were the volunteers who received a call about little Han Solo. So, the pair headed out to the neighborhood where the dog had been spotted. They arrived in the area and found the dog huddled in the corner of a neighbor’s yard. They were able to quickly fence off the area to ensure he would not run away from them. The women knew he would be very scared and very nervous, so they approached him with caution. Once they slowly got near him, they realized he was in a corner, hiding behind a garden hose. He was so terrified he couldn’t even look at the women who were there to rescue him.

The women took their time to help him feel calm and let him know they were not there to harm him. They showed him the leash and let him get used to it, then they slipped it around his neck. Once the leash was on, he did not relax but the women knew that would come with time. They wrapped him in a blanket and brought him back to the facility where he was checked out by a vet and gave him a warm bath. Then, he finally relaxed and he is now available for adoption!
