A dog named Liza started her life in a shelter, where she was born. Her mother was found wandering the streets pregnant and very sick. She eventually gave birth, but the mother dog and all her puppies were very sick. With medical attention and TLC they all recovered and were adopted into loving homes. Liza was just 13 weeks old when Debi Kolak and her dog Mona welcomed her into their home. Mona and Liza immediately bonded and became best friends. Mona and Liza spent two wonderful years together, but then the unthinkable happened: Mona died suddenly and Liza was devastated.
It was clear to Debi that Liza was very lonely without her friend Mona. Debi and Liza then moved in with Debi’s boyfriend and his two dogs: senior Jack Russell terriers. Debi thought being around those two dogs would help to cheer Liza up, but the older dogs didn’t care for Liza’s energetic playfulness. Liza tried, but the dogs weren’t interested in playing. So, Debi began searching local shelters for a potential sibling for Liza. Debi and Liza visited the shelters together, because it was so important to find a dog that Liza was compatible with if they adopted a dog.
One of the dogs they met was named Murphy. He had been at the shelter the longest of any dog there, nearly five months. He was found as a stray and had been adopted by different families three times but was returned each time. Debi wasn’t sure Murphy was a good fit for energetic Liza: he seemed sad and wasn’t excited to see her. But, they gave him a chance and decided to let him meet Liza. They connected instantly and began playing together and having the best time. So, Liza and Debi adopted Murphy. It has been a great fit and though he just arrived, they cannot imagine life without Murphy.
