Dog Scared of Water Gets a Special Coat

April Livingston | November 8th, 2017

There are so many dogs out there in need of a good home. Many of these dogs have been through a lot in their lives, but they simply need someone who can help them and understand their needs. For one such dog named Odie, a rescue found him and placed him up for adoption when he was only a few months old. Not long after that, his new mom took him home. The woman, named Stephanie Lennon, lives in Seattle, Washington. Odie the dog was thrilled to come live with Stephanie, until the rainy season began and it became very apparent that he was afraid of water. Specifically, he was afraid of rain—and Seattle is notorious for its heavy rainfall.

Odie arrived in Seattle in the summer and when fall came around, things got quite rainy. He made it clear that he did not like the rain. He would take a few steps outside and then quickly turn back around to go inside. When Odie first came to live with Stephanie, he had a terrible skin condition. So, she gave him a hoodie that could help him stay warm and also to protect his skin from the elements so it could heal. Odie actually loved wearing his hoodie, because it seemed to help the pup feel safe in his new home. It was then that Stephanie got an idea: why not give Odie a coat to help him feel safe in the rain?

So, Stephanie did what most of us do these days: she went online to find a raincoat for Odie. It was there that she found a rubber ducky raincoat that fit the bill. It turns out that Odie loves his new raincoat just as much as he loved his hooded sweatshirt. In fact, he would wear it all the time if he could—and he’s a little braver about facing the elements when he heads outside.
