Nearly three years ago, Bentley the dog was adopted into a loving home. His former owners moved out of the country and were unable to bring him along with them. This worked out well for his new family, who loves him dearly. Bentley, who is an eight year old Chihuahua, is very small and really just loves to follow his family from room to room so he can be close to them. It seems the little dog just wanted to see what his family is up to at any moment and then the second they sit down, he hops right up into their lap. While he is a very happy go lucky little guy, there is one thing that absolutely terrifies Bentley: thunderstorms.
Each and every time a storm rolls through the area, Bentley gets very upset and anxious. This means he often does not get very good sleep when there is a storm, due to his anxiety and shaking because he is up all night. Melanie Barr, Bentley’s owner, says Chihuahuas typically react to most emotions by shaking and they cannot control it.
So, when a storm rolled through the area and Melanie realized Bentley did not get any sleep she knew something needed to be done. The next morning when the sun was shining she placed his favorite blanket in the sun and then tucked him in with his favorite Chewbacca teddy bear. He quickly fell asleep for over three hours. The homemade bed seems to be just what he needed after a bad storm and lack of sleep and he could finally relax again. While being a little dog in such a big world can be intimidating for a dog like Bentley, he has a family who is willing to help make things good for him.
