In the Philippines, it is common to use what is known as a jeepney bus to get from place to place. That’s where a woman named Tet Tapuyao and her friend were on a recent day when they were heading home. When they got on the bus, they watched in amazement as an unusual passenger joined them on the bus: it was a large black dog. Tet asked one of her fellow passengers if the dog belonged to him, and to her surprise he said no. It seemed the dog was riding the bus all by himself. Tet and her friend had never seen a dog riding on the bus by itself before, so she was amazed by the situation. They were both charmed and amazed by the independent dog who was just riding the bus alone.
So, Tet did what anyone in that kind of situation would do: she got out her phone to take photos of the independent dog riding on the bus. She wasn’t sure how the situation was going to play out, but she wanted to document what was happening all the same. The bus was going down its usual route, and then as they were stopped at a light, there was another public transport vehicle next to them. As the other vehicle, known as a multicab, got closer Tet heard someone shouting. One of the children inside the multicab said, “Oh look! It’s Vince!” and then, “Mom, that’s Vince!”
It turns out the dog on the jeepney bus was not only named Vince, but his family was riding in the other vehicle. It seems Vince’s family left home that day and he decided he wanted to come along. So, he decided to hop on the bus to try to find them—a plan that actually worked out perfectly. His family says they sometimes take him on the bus to run errands, so that is probably why he knew to hop on the bus that day. It all worked out for Vince in the end, though!
