When Isaiah Lennotte’s sister left for college he and their family’s rescue dog grew very close. The dog, a pit bull named Athena, was sad when her sister left and she found comfort in her brother and the pair spent a lot of time together. She never leaves his side and they are the best of friends. That bond was never more clear than on a recent trip. Isaiah went fishing with Athena. The pair spent a relaxing afternoon together and when they headed back home, the unthinkable happened. Isaiah felt faint as he was driving and before he knew it, the car veered off the road and ran into a large boulder and then hit a tree. Once he hit the tree, he blacked out and when he woke up the car was a full of smoke from the airbags and was in the water. He though the car might have been on fire, so he tried getting out.
Isaiah was cut up and bruised, but he knew he and Athena needed to get out of the car as soon as possible. It was a struggle for him to move, but he was able to get to the back door and open it for Athena. She jumped into action, pulling her brother out of the car. She slipped from her leash when pulling him out, but stayed by his side. She stayed next to him and the pair made their way across the street and away from the car. Isaiah’s parents soon arrived and put Athena in their truck but she wasn’t finished protecting her beloved brother.
Athena refused to stay in the truck because she wanted to be by her brother’s side. She only let him go when he was loaded into an ambulance to head to the hospital to make sure he wasn’t seriously injured. Isaiah was given a clean bill of health and he and Athena are both doing well—and she’s still right by his side.
