A German shepherd named Rex is a very good boy. Not only is he a treasured member of his family, but his loyalty is second to none. Rex lives with his family in Washington state and recently, his loyalty was put to the test when he heroically risked his life to protect Javier, his human brother. After all that Rex the dog has been through, it is safe to say he is a true hero. His incredible story of bravery and loyalty began just a few weeks ago, when Rex and Javier were in the family’s home alone. Two thieves broke into the home and that’s when Javier ran upstairs to hide in a closet and call 911. He tried his best to get Rex to come upstairs and into the closet with him but the dog refused to budge.

Rex actually stayed downstairs and confronted the men who had broken into the house. They began to attack him and he ran upstairs to Javier. Rex was battered and bloody from the attack, but he came to make sure Javier was okay. That is when the intruders came upstairs to rummage through the home’s bedrooms. Rex came out of the closet to again defend his home and Javier, and that is when the men shot him. Rex was struck three times with bullets, at which point the intruders fled the house.

While that fight was over, Rex’s fight to survive had just begun. Rex was rushed to a local animal hospital and required surgery. The family was unable to afford the procedure, so the family started a GoFundMe page to cover the cost: https://www.gofundme.com/56jzbww Donors have given over $60,000 to the family and Rex was able to have the lifesaving surgery. The surgery was a success and he was able to return home to his family to heal. What a good boy!
