A dog named Oliver was found as a stray in a backyard of a home in Memphis, Tennessee. When animal control officers arrived to get him, he ran and jumped over fences each time they got close to him. So, they were eventually able to catch him using a humane trap and then he was taken to the Memphis Animal Services facility. As soon as Oliver the dog arrived at the shelter, the staff immediately took to him. He was very smart and just loved food and treats. He soon realized that good behavior and listening meant more treats. The first day he arrived at the shelter, he sat even before he got a treat. But once treats were incorporated he sat all the time. He even began pressing his body up against the bars of the crate so he could be pet by anyone who walked by.
Oliver loved food so much that he soon grew attached to his food bowl and began carrying it with him everywhere he went. The first night he was in the shelter the field supervisor walked by Oliver’s kennel and saw he had his bowl in his mouth so she gave him more food. That’s where it all started and he’s been carrying the bowl in his mouth ever since. No one knows why he does it, but it could be a fun trick, or maybe it’s because he went without food in his past or he just fears he won’t get another meal. Oliver’s tendency to carry the bowl around was so cute to the staff that they began sharing his photo and stories on social media.
Once the story got around the interest in Oliver began rolling in. There were many people who submitted applications to adopt Oliver, but one lucky family is the one who took him and his food bowl home. Best of all, he’ll never have to be hungry ever again!
