A tiny kitten named Nala was found alone, abandoned in a dirty alley. A neighbor heard the kitten’s cries and took the kitten to the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service (SCRAPS) in Spokane, Washington. The kitten had not truly known the love of a mother, but two moms would help her to grow. Because Nala was so young, her best chance at survival was to be with a foster family that had a mother cat to care for her. A woman named Jamie Myers saw the plea for help on Facebook and she was fostering a mother cat who had a litter of kittens and lost several of them. Nala was a few weeks younger than her remaining kittens, but she immediately accepted her and began nursing and grooming her. The mom and her kittens were soon ready for adoption, but Nala still needed extra time to grow.
Nala was alone, after her foster cat mom and siblings moved on, but not for long. Jamie took in a dog named Izzy who recently gave birth to a litter of puppies. Izzy had her paws full with her litter, but she insisted upon taking care of Nala, too. The momma dog kept going to get Nala and put her with the rest of her babies, she thought the little kitten was one of her own. Izzy was insistent that she needed to take care of little Nala, so Jamie let her. She says the kitten couldn’t walk across the room without Izzy running to get her and snuggling and grooming her like she did her own puppies.
She did not want Izzy to be distressed, so she placed Nala in the pen with Izzy’s puppies and as soon as she saw the kitten she relaxed. Nala was happy too—she had warm puppy bodies to snuggle with and love and she had a mother to care for her too. Nala was then ready for adoption, but luckily for Izzy, she now has two more kittens to care for!
