Dog Missing Nose Finds Perfect Home

April Livingston | May 3rd, 2018

A dog named Mirabel has been different from the moment she was born. It is safe to say that humans have not always treated her with compassion and kindness, but all that has changed. Though many people decided not to adopt her due to her unique appearance, all that changed when a woman named Kelli Shook and her family met the sweet little dog. She knew that Mirabel was unique and was also the perfect fit for their family.

Mirabel’s story begins on the streets of Kentucky. She was discovered wandering the streets on a rainy and cold day and someone was kind enough to help her. It was originally thought that Mirabel had suffered an injury, as she is missing her nose and a portion of her upper lip. However, it turns out that she was simply born that way. Veterinarians believe that she had some sort of congenital abnormality that resulted in the issue, much like a cleft palate. Mirabel, who is thought to be around eight or nine years old, likely escaped or was set loose from a puppy mill operation in the area. She appears to have given birth to several litters of puppies during her lifetime.

The little dog was also facing some major health problems: those years of breeding left her with painful mammary tumors, dental issues, and even a hernia. When Mirabel was originally taken in by a rescue group, her story spread quickly across social media and donations poured in to cover the cost of her care. That is also when a woman named Kelli Shook decided to apply for adopting Maribel. Kelli, who lives in Toledo, Ohio, just knew that Maribel was perfect for her family. She fit in immediately with Kelli and her kids, who are making the most of their time with the sweet dog.
